Convictions or beliefs
The convictions, together with our values and criteria, are a key component of our deep structure. For deep structure means the structure that we own and that gives meaning to the reality that surrounds us, every man for himself.
Beliefs provide "certainty" of a reality and influence the views and the internal focus. They also provide the motivation for the choices and options for implementation.
Very often beliefs are not generated by ourselves, nor are the result of their experiences, they often come from experiences from other people's mental maps and, as friends, parents, teachers, media and press.
Beliefs can be basically more or less, likely more, empowering or limiting. Empowering choices to live useful because they allow the achievement of life goals, because they limit restricting goals or desires that you may have.
Beliefs can also be categorized according to their usefulness: useful or not useful to a particular person in a particular social context and in a precise time.
According to Robert Dilts , in The Power of Words and the GNP (Sleight of Mouth), limiting beliefs can be of 3 types:
- Hopeless
- Powerless
- Not feeling worthy
One of the techniques suggested by the Robert Dilts and used by many other trainers is that the counter-example. The idea is that if you find one, even one, "exception to the rule," to its rule in the form of limiting belief.
In a broader view and looking for a successful 100% but it is better advised to broaden their mental map, begin the search for counter-examples to the limiting belief and then continuing to discover that there are other visions of life and that, If deemed appropriate, may be adopted.
